The Taiga Axes

With a design that has been proven effective by Siberian fur trappers, Evenki reindeer herding nomads, and my own experience there is no other axe I’d rather have. My decades of experience has enabled me to meticulously design the perfect axe - one that takes Slavic head design, Evenki modifications, my own personal tweaks, and North American hand forged quality and combines it into an unbeatable forest tool. This is a high quality, hand forged axe that is meant to be used heavily and handed down for generations - a tool you can be proud of. I have designed 2 versions - a larger “Moose” which is ideal for those who live in the outdoors, depend on an axe regularly, and need a serious tool for serous jobs. The other is the “Wolverine”. Lighter, more packable, and yet able to outperform its size just like the animal itself. These are the axes to own.

Features

The design of this axe is inspired by the Evenki people who live every day in the Taiga (Northern forests of Siberia). In being outdoors constantly, few people use axes as much as they do. From building 30+ kilometer fences using only axes, to constantly preparing poles for tipis, bushcrafting, and other vital tasks, no other people know more what an axe needs to be a true universal forest tool. In doing so they have thought through every nuance of an axe and its design. I have spent years trying to find the right team to partner with to create the best possible product and finally I have combined the incredible Evenki design with the vision and skill to bring these tools to North America.

Every feature and design element of this axe has been thought through and executed to perfection in a way only possible when each axe is carefully handcrafted with pride. For that reason, not only do I have my own stamp on the blade, but also the mark of Broad River Forge, the only forge I found that could meet my expectations and vision. I also have my signature etched into the sheath indicating that I am willing to put my name on this axe. Finally the year of manufacture will be stamped into the axe - as this is a piece that is meant to least for generations.

Thes axes are specifically designed for Northern forests to enable the most efficient and fast cut possible on softwoods and conifers that dominate the Western USA and Northern forests. If you will be using it predominantly for hardwoods (i.e. Eastern woodlands) let us know and we will create a custom edge on the axe specifically designed to hold an edge against hard oak knots and the like.

How to choose the proper grind/bevel

“This axe handles absolutely everything that I’ve put it through in the woods. Perfect for a lifelong, hardened outdoorsman! I’ve done everything from falling trees, to fine bushcraft projects, to skinning and butchering animals with this axe. The single bevel head allows me to use it like a draw knife or scraping tool.”
