HUNTS

We offer a wide array of hunting opportunities in the Idaho wilderness! Our commitment to fostering sustainability and conservation would be incomplete without incorporating hunting as an avenue of developing connection with the outdoors. Below are some options for hunts, but we will also have some hunts coming soon specifically tailored to beginner hunters with the goal of teaching you as much as possible about elk hunting. Let me know if this is of interest to you!

Our hunts are not “mass produced”. We run only a small number of select hunts based on the carrying capacity of the land with which we are well acquainted. Never will we pack more hunts in to make more money if we feel the land can’t sustainably support it and offer you a quality hunt. We will work with you to create a trip tailored to your experience and skill level as we aim to provide you with an incredible, raw mountain experience. I don’t lean in to “glamping”. I emphasize rugged backcountry hunts where we can be flexible and adapt to conditions: and given the terrain I can’t encourage my clients enough to be as fit as possible and ready to tackle incredible challenges in remote and untraveled terrain. No matter the outcome - any hunt you embark on with us will be an unforgettable mountain experience. Animals harvested in these lands are among the most well earned, memorable hunts a person can have.

Though I am not personally guiding these hunts, I hire only the most skilled, personable, and dedicated guides who are good teachers and committed to maximizing your time in the mountains. These are people I personally know and trust, and from whom I have likley learned a lot myself.

ELK/DEER

The Iconic Western Hunt! There is nothing quite like pursuing rugged, wild, mountain elk in the largest wilderness in the lower 48. That is exactly what is on offer here. We have guaranteed tags - meaning you don’t have to wait in line to get your tag as a non-resident. We offer hunts in one of the only areas that allows you to hunt using a rifle throughout the entire season (Sept 15-Nov 11). All of our elk and deer hunts also INCLUDE any other species you have a tag for (bear, wolves, deer etc..) which we will be happy to try and get you on should the opportunity arise!

We will pack your gear in to a base camp and your meat/gear out! But from our base camp the hunt will emphasize fitness and flexibility! For example, If we find elk on the side of a mountain, we may just sleep out under the stars to have an opportunity in the morning - no need to be tethered to our base camp if we can increase our chance of success by going farther/harder. This week isn’t about comfort, its about the grind - about making hard work pay off. I don’t want to sugar coat it - this area has some of the toughest elk hunting there is - so be prepared for the challenge should you accept it!

Our area is home to some of the most untouched deer habitat there is. That’s for good reason as the terrain is rugged and remote - but the potential payoffs are opportunities at deer that haven’t been hunted heavily (by humans). We have access to both high mountain mule deer and lower elevation whitetail. Get after these incredible animals in incredible lands: who knows who what deer might be hiding out there having never seen a hunter - there is something incredibly alluring about seeking out these elusive monsters.

Elk hunts can be combined with an deer tag at no extra cost (aside from the tag) to hunt both!

Mountain Lion/Wolf

This is an incredible fly-in hunt! Take a bush plane back into the wilderness to our base camp and from there we will hunt areas rarely hunted. We have a very dense predator population in our area. So much so that mountain lion, bear, and wolf tags are reduced in price to encourage hunting of these incredible species in our unit and to ease the pressure on the ungulates. 7 out of 10 of the top Boone and Crockett cats have come from Unit 17. This 8 day lion/wolf hunt takes place in January and we will search for lion tracks and use hounds to try and tree them. This may sound easy but it can be incredibly grueling (who knows where those dogs and cats will go)! We will also use various means to try and locate/hunt wolves who will be in the area hunting the wintering elk. Be in shape and get ready for an epic winter adventure.

Our area offers some of the best bear hunting out there! With large populations and reduced price tags we can pursue bears with a high chance of success. Our area is also remote and thus the pressure is particularly low - these will be FLY IN in backcountry hunts - enjoy an incredibly unique opportunity to fly into our backcountry camp (included in the price!). Though rifles are allowed, these are also great spot and stalk archery hunts for the adventurous. Wolf populations are high in this area and we can pursue these incredibly elusive animals also. Come join us for an epic springtime hunt in an incredible and productive land! On this hunt we spend long hours hiking & glassing to find bears, so being fit and putting in a lot of hours on this hunt is a must! With exclusive outfitting access to over 150,000 acres, there is no shortage of places to go! We only run a very limited number of hunts with the best guides.

HUNTING MASTERCLASS

New to hunting but interested in learning as much as you can as fast as possible? There is no better way than to get out there with a true master and learn the ropes in the field! Join this class for an incredible trip where the focus is on teaching you to hunt Western big game (elk, bear, etc..). You can come on your own, or book with friends. The nature of the time being focused on education means the priority will be to impart to you the knowledge and skills you need to be a successful hunter. However, given that the course will be in the heart of the wilderness during hunting season and with tags in hand there will be opportunities to put those skills to work and potentially come out with a filled tag! Dial in your gear, skillset, and confidence with the hands-on guidance of experts.

This Hunting Masterclass will be taught by Cliff Gray and Cade Cole! I couldn’t imagine a better team of hunters/teachers to guide you on this course.

Days will be filled with lessons while mornings and evenings the skills will be put to use! Because of the focus on teaching, I would think of a harvest as a bonus more than an expectation. We will impart to you years worth of knowledge in what is an investment into your hunting future. We will have 2 teachers/guides and 4 students/hunters. This will be a more affordable option than booking a private, guided hunt.

The April class will be focused on the entire Western big game hunting skillset, though it will take place during prime Spring bear season. We will be at a remote fly-in location in an area with a high number of bears that receive incredibly low hunting pressure.

Prerequisites

All participants must be capable of hiking 3-4 miles. We view hunting as an active activity and each day of the course will contain physical activity.

Students are should take a hunter’s safety course in their state of residence before attending. The majority of the course can usually be taken online through Hunter-ed.com. Some states require a “field course” that is 4-6 hours. Idaho requires a hunter’s education certification before you can purchase tags/licenses.

Firearm and archery marksmanship is only touched on in the course. To become proficient in these fields, we suggest self study/practice.
